Works on Paper
Sun’s 'Works on Paper' series investigates a language of lingering in urban architectural thresholds or ‘interstitial spaces’ designed for temporary passage - a bridge, a guard watchtower, a subway station, a pier, a train carriage, a portico. Scenes are derived from various cities and their architectures - New York City, Sydney, Venice, Hiroshima - documenting the artist's personal encounters.
As viewers, you embody the subject and their nuances or spatial behaviourisms, participating in a kind of autobiographical fiction and becoming them as they peer into some distant enigma. These extensions inform and reveal fundamental similarities between self and others, across culture and time.
